This is a partially functional 70 MHz SAW filter module, S/N H00760, formerly used as an IF filter in military satellite communications systems. The US government paid $6917 each for these rugged units, solidly constructed of aluminum with mostly stainless steel hardware. The fully enclosed module (the cover was removed in the photo to show the internal components) was housed in the satellite system IF translator patch panel. The unit requires 15 VDC power for relays and internal amplifiers, resulting in a nominal -6 dB insertion loss. A 10 position rotary switch selects the filter bandwidth with the 10th position as bypass. This filter was checked with a spectrum analyzer on all 9 of the possible bandwidth settings, 7 of 8 bandwidth selections are functional. The typical passband characteristic for each bandwidth setting is shown here. Please note that the filters vary a few dB in insertion loss from unit to unit. Filter Unit, Bandpass, F1516/TSC |
